WICHITA—The Wichita State track and field teams welcomed 31 new members to the squad Monday.
“I am really pleased with how this recruiting class came together ultimately,” said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Steve Rainbolt. “There was a time in the winter when I was concerned with how recruiting was going. Ultimately, we finished strong, and I feel we put together a terrific group of freshman and transfers.”
The Shockers added 11 transfer athletes and 20 true freshmen to the roster. The 11 transfers combined for 18 first team NJCAA All-America finishes at their respective junior colleges.
Fourteen of the newest Shocker track and field athletes hail from the state of Kansas, and three newcomers are from Wichita.

Levi Armon(Throws) – Ness City, Kan. (Cloud County CC)…As a freshman he made appearances at the 2018 NJCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships…As a sophomore he finished 11th in shot put (15.17m/49-9.25) and 14th in weight throw (14.28m/46-10.25) at the NJCAA Indoor Championships. Tanner Brown(Sprints/Multi) – Russell, Kan. (Cloud County CC)…Placed fourth in heptathlon (4,518) at the 2019 NJCAA Indoor Championships…Finished second in decathlon (6,130) at the K.T. Woodman Classic…Scored 6,301 points to win the 2019 NJCAA Region VI decathlon title…Placed fourth in decathlon (6,037) at the 2019 NJCAA Outdoor Championships. Storm Dial(Multi) – Emporia, Kan. John Esquibel(Sprints) – Ranchos de Taos, N.M. (Taos HS)… Four-year letterwinner at Taos HS in New Mexico … Three-time state champion as a member of the 4X400-meter relay team … Finished fifth in the open 400 meters at the 2018 NMAA 4A State Championship … A member of four state championship-winning teams … Also played hockey and soccer … Won a state championship in hockey. Ethan Feliciano(Pole Vault) – Arlington, Texas (Mansfield Timberview HS)…Three-time Texas UIL 5A state championship qualifier in pole vault…As a junior he placed fifth at the Texas UIL 5A state championships, after finishing second at the Texas UIL 5A Region II championships…Won four regular season competitions as a senior and placed sixth at the Texas UIL 5A state championships. Dae’Trell Gordon(Throws) – Columbia, M.D. (Cowley County CC)…As a freshman he finished 15th in shot put (14.63m/48-0) at the 2018 NJCAA Indoor Championships and 14th in discus (43.34m/142-2) at the 2018 NJCAA Outdoor Championships…Placed fourth in shot put (13.70m/44-11.5) at the 2019 Wichita State Indoor College Invitational…Finished seventh at the 2019 NCAA Region VI Indoor Championships (14.28m/46-10.25) and the NJCAA Indoor Championships (15.90m/52-2)…Recorded two top-5 finishes at the 2019 NJCAA Region VI Outdoor Championships finishing third in shot put (15.35m/50-4.5) and fourth in discus (45.77m/150-2)…Ended the season with two top-15 finishes at the NJCAA Outdoor Championships placing 10th in shot put (15.35m/50-4.5) and 15th in discus (42.32m/138-10). Cade Heikes(Distance) – Olathe, Kan. (Olathe North HS)…Qualified for the KSHSAA State 6A Championships his junior and senior seasons…As a junior he finished runner-up in 1,600m (4:24.82) at the KSHSAA State 6A Championships…Was the 2019 state champion in the 1,600m with a time of 4:23.02. Reece Jones (Middle Distance) – Overland Park, Kan. (St. Thomas Aquinas)…Finished sixth at the 2018 KSHSAA Regional 5A Regional #6 in the 800 meters … Was a member of a seventh-place 4X400-meter relay team at the KSHSAA %A State Championships in 2018. Personal bests: 800 meters – 1:59.88; 1,600 meters – 4:23.43; 3,200 meters – 9:39.70.
Weston Lewis(Jumps) – Gove, Kan. (Colby CC)… Finished seventh in high jump (1.98m/6-6) at the 2019 NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships earning first-team All-American honors…Placed 11th in high jump (1.85m/6-0.75) at the 2019 NJCAA Region VI Indoor Championships. Personal bests: High Jump – 1.98m/6-6
Cliff Littleton(Distance) – Shawnee, Okla. (Shawnee HS)…Qualified for the OSSAA 6A State Championships as a junior and senior…Placed fourth in the 800m as a junior in 2018…As a senior he placed ninth in the 800m and 12th in the 1,600m at the state championships. Personal bests: 800m – 1:57; 1,600m – 4:23; 3,200m – 9:47; 5,000m 15:50
Britte Magnunson(Distance) – Wichita, Kan. (Maize South HS)…Was an eight-time KSHSAA State Championship qualifier…As a sophomore he was part of the 4x800m KSHSAA 4A state championship relay team that included current Shockers Ethan Kossover and Bryce Merriman, also qualified for the 1,600m (7th, 4:31.02) and 800m (7th, 2:00.53)…After moving to 5A his junior season, he won his second state title as a member of the 4x800m that clocked in at 7:54.66…In 2019 he finished fourth as a member of the 4x800m, sixth in the 3,200m and seventh in the 1,600m at the KSHSAA 5A State Championships. Personal bests: Mile – 4:24; 3,200m – 9:38
Asher Moen(Distance) – Wichita, Kan. (Andover HS)…Was a KSHSAA State Championship qualifier in all four years of his high school career…As a freshman in 2016 he placed 14th overall in the 3,200m at the 5A state championships…He made his second state championship appearance in 2017 finishing ninth in the 3,200m (9:51.58) and 11th in the 1,600m (4:40.51)…Moen made his first podium appearance at the state championships in his junior season finishing with a silver medal his junior season in the 3,200m (9:26.57) and fifth as member of the 4,800m relay…As a senior he was a two-time state champion winning an individual title in the 3,200m (9:24.74) and as a member of the 4,800m relay (8:00.77). Adam Moore(Distance) – Staines-upon-Thames, England…Finished ninth in the 1,500m at the United Kingdom U23 championships. Personal bests: 800m – 1:53.6; 1,500m – 3:43.2.
Antonio Norman(Sprints/Hurdles) – St. Louis, Mo. (Lindenwood University)…Competed one year at Lindenwood University before transferring to Wichita State…Finished fifth in the 400m with a time of 48.54 at the MIAA Indoor Championships, before running the third fastest preliminary time of 48.12…Was the 2019 MIAA 400m hurdles champion winning with a time of 51.82…Finished 11th in the 400m hurdles (53.39) at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships. Personal bests: 400m – 48.12; 60m hurdles – 8.39; 400m hurdles – 51.82.
Stanley Nwosu(Sprints) – Denton, Texas (Denton Ray HS)…Was a four-time Texas UIL 5A State Championship qualifier…In his sophomore year he was a member of the 4x200m that finished third at the Texas UIL 5A Region I meet before advancing to the state championships where they placed sixth…Competed in two relays at the 2018 Texas UIL 5A State Championships, 4x200m(1:26.59) placed fourth and the 4x100m finished eighth (41.61). As an individual he was the 5A District 5 champion in the 200m (22.43)…In his senior season he was a member of the 4x200m team that won the UIL 5A Region I title with a time of 1:27.75, before finishing fourth at the state championships in 1:26.56. Personal bests: 200m – 21.81
Mel Obadiah (Distance) – Cleveland, Tenn. (Iowa Central CC)..A four-time NJCAA All-American at Iowa Central CC, Obadiah specialized in the middle-distance races on the track…As a freshman he was part of the 4x800m relay team that won the 2018 NJCAA Outdoor title, after finishing fourth during the indoor season…In 2019 he placed fifth as an individual in the 800m (1:54.92) at the NJCAA Indoor Championships. During the outdoor season he was a member of the 4x800m team that finished second at the NJCAA championships. Personal bests: 400m – 50.5; 800m – 1:54.07; 1,500m – 4:10.
Keegan Staats (Middle Distance) – Overland Park, Kan. (St. Thomas Aquinas) … Three-time letterwinner at St. Thomas Aquinas in Overland Park … Won two races during his senior outdoor campaign … Was on two relay teams that finished in the top 10 at the KSHSAA State Track and Field Championships … Competed in the NXR Heartland Regional Championships during the 2018 cross country season … Took 30that the KSHSAA 5A State Championship in cross country in 2018. Personal bests: 800m – 1:59.50; 1,600m – 4:30.00; 3,200m – 9:51.17; 5K – 16:19.30
Nathan Vann(Multi) – Tulsa, Okla. (Cowley County CC)…A four-time first-team NJCAA All-American…As a freshman he finished eighth in the heptathlon (4,674) at the NJCAA Indoor Championships, also placed 11th in pole vault (4.35m/14-3.25)…Finished seventh in decathlon (5,895) at the 2018 NJCAA Outdoor championship, also placed 11th in pole vault (4.30m/14-1.25)…In his sophomore year he scored 4,455 points to finish sixth in the heptathlon at the NJCAA Indoor Championships and placed third overall in the decathlon (6,200) at the NJCAA Outdoor Championships. Personal bests: Decathlon – 6,276; Heptathlon – 4,674; Pole vault – 4.50m/14-9.
Morris Wynn(Middle Distance) – Oklahoma City, Okla. (Cowley County CC)…Was a vital part to the Cowley County CC 4x400m and 4x800m relay teams…As a freshman he was a member of the 4x800m team that finished ninth at the NJCAA Indoor Championships, also placed 16th in the 4x400m. During the outdoor season he helped the 4x800m finish sixth at the NJCAA Outdoor Championships…In his sophomore season he finished third in the 600m at the Wichita State College Invitational and was a member of the 4x800m that placed third at the indoor national championships…He finished fifth in the 800m (1:58.39) at the K.T. Woodman Classic and finished 15th in the 800m (1:56.99) at the NJCAA Outdoor Championships. Personal bests: 400m – 49.92; 600m – 1:21.90; 800m – 1:53.99.
Sadie Boos(Throws) – Tulsa, Okla. (Bishop Kelly HS)…Was an OSSAA 5A State Championship qualifier her sophomore, junior and senior season…As a sophomore she recorded two top-15 finishes at the championships placing 14th in discus and 15th in shot put…She made her first podium appearance at the state championships her junior season when she placed second in shot put, she also finished 10th in discus…Was the 2019 OSSAA 5A state champion in shot put winning with a toss of 42-11.5, she also qualified in discus finishing 11th. Personal bests: Shot put – 13.09m/42-11.5; Discus – 34.01m/111-7.
Miranda Dick(Distance) – Peculiar, Mo. (Raymore-Peculiar HS)…Qualified for the MSHSAA Class 5 State Championships all four years of her high school career…As a freshman she finished second in the 2,000m steeplechase at the Kansas Relays and placed 11th in the 1,600m at the state championships…She won the Kansas Relays 2,000m steeplechase as a sophomore. At the state championships she finished fourth in the 3,200m and as a member of the 4,800m relay, also placed sixth in the 1,600m…Mader her third state championships appearance in 2017 finishing fourth as a member of the 4x800m, sixth in 3,200m and sixth in 1,600m…As a senior she made her first state championship podium appearance placing third in the 3,200m with a time of 11:35.98, also placed seventh as a member of the 4,800m. Anna Heacock(Multi) – Festus, Mo. (Jefferson HS)…Was a three-time MSHSAA Class 2 State Champion, twice in the 100m hurdles and once in the 300m hurdles…Had a breakout season her sophomore year qualifying in four events for the 2017 MSHSAA Class 2 State Championships including 100m hurdles (1st), 300m hurdles (2nd), long jump (3rd) and 200m (5th)…Placed fifth in the pentathlon (2,749) at the Vanderbilt HS Invitational during the 2018 indoor season, also competed at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships finishing 10thwith 4,121 points…Was a two-time state champion as a junior winning the 100m hurdles (15.36) and 300m hurdles (45.56)…As a senior she was part of two relays (4x100m, 4x200m) that qualified for the state championships, she also qualified as an individual in the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles. Personal bests: 100m – 14.74; 400m hurdles – 1:02.68; Long jump 18-1; Heptathlon – 4,662.
Erika Hoag(Throws) – Arkansas City, Kan. (Cowley County CC)…A javelin specialist she placed top-10 in four of the five meets she entered…Won the 2019 Tiger Invitational with a mark of 35.49m/116-5 and placed eighth at the K.T. Woodman Classic with a toss of 38.17m/125-3…Hoag placed top-8 in both post season meets, finishing fourth at the 2019 NJCAA Region VI Outdoor Championships (36.74m/120-6) and seventh at the NJCAA Outdoor Championships (39.26m/128-10) to earn first team All-American honors. Personal bests: Javelin – 39.26m/128-10.
Sharon Kiprop (Distance) – Iten, Kenya (Kapkenda HS)…Personal bests: 1,500 meters – 4:40; 3,000 meters – 10:05; 5,000 meters – 17:10.
Claire Lieb(Distance) – Wichita, Kan. (Trinity Academy)…Won the KSHSAA Class 4A Buhler Regional in cross country during the 2018 season… Earned all-state honors with a fifth-place finish in the 3,200 meters at the KSHSAA Track and Field State Championships in her senior outdoor campaign… Also earned all-state honors as a member of her school’s eighth-place 4X800-meter relay team… Earned a combined seven letters between her cross country and track and field careers in high school… Holds her high school’s record in the 5K and the 2K Steeplechase… Plans to study exercise science in pursuit of a career in physical therapy… Personal bests – 1,600 meters – 5:34; 3,200 meters – 11:57; 2,000-meter steeplechase – 8:17; 5,000 meters – 19:05
Destiny Masters(Multi/Jumps) – El Dorado, Kan. (Bluestem HS)…Qualified for the KSHSAA 2A state track and field championships in her only two years of competition at Bluestem HS…As a junior she made the podium at the state championships in the high jump (2nd), long jump (5th), 100m hurdles (5th) and 100m (8th)…Was a state champion as a senior in long jump winning with a mark of 17-1.75, also placed third in high jump clearing 5’2” and placed 10thin the 100m dash (13.08). Personal bests: High Jump – 5-2; long jump – 17-4.75; 100m hurdles – 16.01.
Kylie Meier(Sprints/Hurdles) – Camdenton, Mo. Ezinne Okoro(Jumps) Dodge City, Kan. (Dodge City HS)…Qualified for the KSHSAA 6A State Championships all four years of her high school career…Capped off her track and field career winning the 6A state title in triple jump (39-9.75), also placed fourth as a member of the 4x400m relay team…As a junior she qualified for three events at the state championships including a sixth place finish in triple jump (37-3.5)…Was a two-time KSHSAA 6A Region I champion in the triple jump and as a member of the 4x100m…In 2016 she qualified for the state championships as a member of the 4x100m and 4x400m relays…Personal bests: Triple jump – 39-9.75.
Abeba Sullivan(Distance) Saukville, Wis. (Iowa Central CC)…A four-time NJCAA All-American as a Triton…Was a member of the 4x800m relay team that won the indoor national title with a time of 9:15.49 and placed second at the NJCAA Outdoor championships (9:06.78)…As a sophomore she finished 13th at the NJCAA Cross Country Championships with a 5K time of 19:37.0…Placed third at the 2019 NJCAA Outdoor Championships as a member of the 4×800 team. Personal bests: 1500m – 4:47; 3000m – 10:26.
Erin Topham (Distance) Valley Center, Kan. (Berean Academy) … Finished as the runner-up at the 2018 KSHSAA 6A Regional – Wichita East … Competed at the 2017 NXR Heartland Regional Championships during her junior cross country season … Finished top three in the 1,600 meters and the 3,200 meters at the 2019 KSHSAA State Track and Field Championships … Was a member of the runner-up 4X800-meter relay team for Berean Academy at the KSHSAA State Track and Field Championships … Was a four-time letterwinner in cross country in high school. Anna Zimmer (Throws) Lewistown, Mont. (Fergus HS)… Placed in the top 10 in three different events (shot put, discus, javelin) at the 2019 MHSA Track Class A and C Championships including a state title in the shot put … Didn’t finish a meet worse than second place in the shot put during her senior year … Won the state title in the shot put her junior year.
